Some of the main security threats with EFTPOS payments include physical tampering or skimming, cyber-attacks and fraud.
EFTPOS tampering or ‘skimming’ is when someone illegally copies card details. There are a number of things you can do to reduce the risk of card skimming, including:
Physically inspecting the terminal to check for tampering or additions to the terminal
Not leaving the terminal unattended
Ensuring your staff is aware of the risks of EFTPOS skimming and can report incidents

To keep your EFTPOS terminals safe, don’t let unauthorised people tamper with your terminal(s). Always verify the identity of any third-party persons claiming to be repair or maintenance personnel before granting them access to modify or troubleshoot your device. You can ask for photo identification or call us to verify.
